General Membership Meeting November 17th, 2022

As we returned to in-person events, Warner Bros. Property Dept./Drapery Dept.
continued their tradition of hosting the always well-attended
November SDSA General Membership meeting.
The prop house loading dock was dressed to party by host Robert Greenfield and
his very talented team. It was a fun evening of drinks, food and camaraderie.
The meeting portion of the evening was helmed by our Executive Director Gene Cane
and Board Member, VP Business Members, JoAnn Vara of Bridge Props.
SDSA President Gene Serdena and host Robert Greenfield also took a moment
to address the crowd. Ron Franco made the announcement that the much anticipated SDSA Luncheon will be back in the spring. Rebranded as the SDSA Honors,
this will be an in-person event. Set Decorator Mary Ann Biddle will be honored.

General Membership Meeting October 20th, 2022
Hosted by Dapper Cadaver
If it's October, you can count on Dapper Cadaver hosting their
annual SDSA Costume Party! This year's theme was '80s Horror!
Attendees of the virtual party enjoyed a tour of Dapper Cadaver's
prop house in Madison, Wisconsin, some haunted cocktail recipes,
ghoulish horror movie trivia, and a fun trick or treat down memory lane
with everyone recalling their favorite childhood costumes, treats and traditions.
Executive Director Gene Cane led a brief announcement of recent
SDSA achievements and upcoming events.
Thank you to Eileen and BJ Winslow, and the gang at Dapper Cadaver
for a spooky-tacular evening!

SDSA EMMY PARTY September 1st, 2022
Hosted by Astek/On Air Design
The hottest party of the year, on the hottest day of the year, which lent itself to the evening's theme, Havana Nights!
Astek Wallcoverings/On Air Designs hosted the 2022 SDSA Emmy Party on Thursday September 1st, serving up delicious food, swanky cocktails, and raffle prizes. The event celebrated the Production Design/Set Decoration nominees for the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Set Decorator nominees took the stage to give their thank you speeches.
The effervescent duo, JoAnn Vara and Gene Cane hosted the awards program which also included SDSA Awards - Television 2021 framed certificates being handed out. The evening also saw the return of the Community Outreach Committee Silent Art Auction benefiting Set for Life which helps foster youth transitioning out of care.
The SDSA would like to send a heartfelt THANKS to the wonderful set decorators who volunteered to appear for a Q&A Panel at the NY School for Interior Design.

SDSA Holiday Party December 6th, 2022

The SDSA folks in Atlanta enjoyed a holiday wonderland that
on any other day would be known as Prop Source!
Delicious food, spirits and merriment ensued, along with raffle prizes
as well as treats for the kids who attended.

Amanda "Mandy" Thayer SDSA
Amanda “Mandy” Thayer passed away December 11th after a long battle with cancer.
A longtime prop house fixture, a great friend to many and a fervent supporter of the SDSA, Mandy had her finger on the pulse of the Set Decoration world.
Mandy’s children and grandchildren are industry professionals, something that brought pride and joy.
A visit with Mandy was a great long chat. Mandy will be missed by the entire Set Decoration community.
Memorial services are pending.
Marvin March SDSA
Legendary Set Decorator Marvin March passed away October 28th.
Highly respected not only for his work in widely diverse productions, he was also a kind and generous Gentleman bringing visibility to the art of Set Decoration.
Mr. March began his career in 1964 working in both television and film before transitioning exclusively to feature films. Through his remarkable body of work, Marvin received 5 Academy Award Nominations and served, with distinction, as the Set Decoration Governor for Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Marvin was also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from
The Set Decorators Society of America,
an organization of which he was a founding member.
Upon retirement in 1998, Mr. March continued to be involved in the world of Set Decoration giving his time and knowledge to the history and education
of the art of the cinematic craft.
